Is your heart filled with anxiety, and all peace has left you? You are gripped with fear of the difficult times ahead? – God your Father wants to help you; He wants to fill your heart with peace. Hear His cry, ‘O that you had hearkened to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river.’ (Isaiah 48:18 RSV) In other words, accept the commandments of God as binding and do His will day by day. Then you will be one with God; this, in turn, will make you strong and fill your heart with peace. In times of great distress this peace will not leave you. It will be as an ever-flowing river, for its source is union with the will of God.

Are you longing for reconciliation with God? Look at the fatherly hands of God. Look at the way they work in the lives of human beings. These fatherly hands place the robe of righteousness and the most precious ring of divine love on those who approach the Father like the prodigal son and who say in deep contrition, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against You.” (Lukes 15:21-22) When your sins and failures make you sad, place yourself in these fatherly hands. They will soothe your pain and show you infinite kindness.
