What is the way to happiness? Total commitment to God. That means total surrender of your will to the will of God at every moment. This is the foundation of all happiness. Whoever has submitted his will to God’s will, and renews this commitment again and again, is free from destructive self-will and oppressive worries. Rather, he rests peacefully in the will of God, in the loving will of the Father, who has the very best of intentions for His children. That makes for happiness.

You find it hard to accept God’s will. What He has brought to pass seems to be ruining your life. But, whenever God shatters a life’s dream, He will build up something new on the foundation of a broken and humble heart. He will give you something greater and far more wonderful, for God is love. He never takes from us anything which would have been best for us. He only seeks to deal with the impurities in our lives, so that He can build up much more wonderfully that which lies in pieces before us. He wants to fulfil the deepest longings of our hearts. Expect that, and you will be able to accept the will of God, finding all the comfort you seek.

Jesus teaches us to pray, “Your will be done.” And this is to our advantage, for, when praying this way, we exclude the possibility that our self-will is done. Because our will is limited and inclined to err, having our own way does not guarantee happiness. Indeed, it is more likely to have the opposite effect. But if God’s will is done, then that is the will of perfect wisdom and of perfect love. We do not know what is good for us; only God does. So pray with the complete surrender of your will and desires, “Your will be done.” In surrendering to His will unreservedly, you will have made the best choice for your life. The loving will of God will lead you to the supreme goal – the heavenly glory.

Jesus teaches us to pray, “Your will be done.” And this is to our advantage, for, when praying this way, we exclude the possibility that our self-will is done. Because our will is limited and inclined to err, having our own way does not guarantee happiness. Indeed, it is more likely to have the opposite effect. But if God’s will is done, then that is the will of perfect wisdom and of perfect love. We do not know what is good for us; only God does.
