Your whole life is in a mess. You do not know how to sort things out. Turn to Someone who can. Think of the One who created a wonderful world out of chaos. Is He not able to put right your small life?
Man made in God’s image is more precious to Him than the rest of creation. We are His children, whom He wants to help and straighten out. He sent His Son, for He knew what a mess we would make of our lives with our presumptuous self-will, our opposition to His divine laws, and our ready surrender in the face of sin. Now He would say to you, ‘Jesus is your Redeemer. He will break your chains, solve your problems and answer your questions. Trust Him completely.’

You should say to the heavenly Father with a trusting heart, ‘I don’t want to follow this path if You don’t want me to. I want to love only the way You have planned for me. I know that it is the best one, for in Your loving heart You have thought it out especially for me.’ Then your troubled heart will be at peace, and you will find that God’s leading is best.

You see where humanity is heading. The threat of a nuclear war and large-scale destruction hangs over the world because of humanity’s sins. But your loving Father in heaven tells you in His Word that He is ‘a shield to those who walk in integrity … preserving the way of his saints’. He will make a path in the mighty waters for His saints, His chosen ones. He will lead them safely through fire, for they are precious in His sight and are in His care. For your part, make sure that you really belong to Him. (Proverbs 2:7-8; Isaiah 43:2)

We should not let a single day pass without asking God, ‘Teach me to trust in Your fatherly love.’ There is nothing we need more than such trust. Those who can trust the Father like a child will receive help in all their troubles. The gift of trust is a most precious gift, which the Father is waiting to give to those who ask.

Have you perhaps lost all hope of help in your difficult situation and in view of the impending calamities which will bring terror to the whole earth? Put your trust in God. We have His promise: ‘Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you.’ Cling to this verse. Do not yield to despair, for, as the Bible warns us, ‘If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.’ (Isaiah 7:9) Those who trust and revere God, expecting the best from Him, will experience grace and comfort. So it was long ago; so it is today.

From millions of people the Father receives only mistrust, and that wounds His heart. Would you like to be someone who brings joy to God’s heart? Then trust in His love. Trust Him completely.

In God’s Word we read, ‘My father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up.’ When deprived of human assistance and support, we will experience God’s power. A person who puts his trust in crutches cannot be taught how to walk. This is why the Lord challenges us in our hearts, ‘Throw away your crutches so that My power can be effective for you. When you go your way in My strength, then victory and joy will be yours. So stop imposing limitations on My power.’ (Psalm 27:10)

Once — perhaps it was only yesterday — you saw how God answered prayer, helped you in your troubles and brought you through your afflictions. Once — perhaps it was only yesterday — when you were very sad, you saw how He comforted you and did not allow you to be tempted beyond your powers of endurance. Do you think that the God of yesterday is not the same as the God of today? Believe that just as ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever’, so is God your Father the same for all eternity. He will take care of you today as well. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond your powers of endurance today either, but will carry you through. Cling to this knowledge in implicit trust. Then you will overcome all difficulties through faith in the One whose power and love are the same today (Hebrews 13:8, 1 Corinthians 10:13).

You have been let down by people in whom you had placed your hopes. You feel disappointed, especially if they are Christians. However, God has allowed this disappointment in your life for a purpose. Every hope you set in people is to come to naught, so that you put your hope and trust in God alone. God is the only one who never disappoints us. Somewhere along the line people will fail us, for they are fallible. Even the Church of Jesus Christ is only a lowly ‘manger’ into which the treasure of the Gospel has been laid. It is this treasure which you should seek. It will last for ever and never lose its worth. Rather, the more you know it, the more precious it will be — like our Lord Jesus Christ. The love of God had a reason in sending you disappointment. Let it accomplish its purpose in your heart. Be all the more grateful that God never disappoints you. Turn to Him alone and love Him even more. And out of this love for God, learn to love those whom He loves — the failure, the sinner.
