We worry and fret about things for no good reason. Yet the troubled and fearful could be released from all their cares and worries. They have the privilege of saying “Father” to Almighty God. It is a father’s duty to provide for his children. Are we making sure that we are children in our relationship with God? Then He will lavish His fatherly care upon us.

God wants to help His children. However, so often we make ourselves independent of Him. Self-sufficient, we exclude God from our plans and decisions, with the result that we are separated from Him. How, then, can He intervene in our concerns and problems and send help? When we take everything into our own hands, we tie God’s hands. Is it any wonder, then, if our problems are not solved?

Perhaps at this moment there are things in your life which you would like to wish away — difficult relationships or other unsolved problems causing you distress. Listen! All this is challenging you to use an opportunity you have neglected so far: Turn all your problems into prayer. There is no unanswered prayer. Persevere in prayer until help comes. It will come; indeed, God in His love has already planned how He will help. He is waiting for you to come to Him in prayer.

God is love! May this fact be sufficient for you. Do not try to understand God when His leadings seem to you unfathomable. Rather, humble yourself beneath them. Then you will become wise, and God’s heart will be opened for you. Through humble love you will be able to comprehend deeply the nature of His love, even if your human reasoning still fails to fathom His actions. Humble yourself beneath the powerful hand of God and you will find peace. You will rest in His will amid all His incomprehensible leadings.

The Father in His love has planned an abundant reward for all His children’s tears. He Himself wants to wipe away every tear from our eyes. Like the father of the prodigal, He wants to embrace us and shower us with love. After the troubles of this life He wants to give us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. He will repay us without end for our sufferings. Full of joy, He will show us the harvest of our days on earth. As we keep our thoughts focused on such a glorious outcome, our greatest suffering will seem small to us.
(Revelation 21:4, 2 Corinthians 4:17)

Perhaps you are grumbling in your heart that God does not give you any comfort or help in your suffering. However, it is this very grumbling, your complaining against the burden of your cross, and your defiance of God’s leading, that has erected a dam which in turn obstructs the flow of comfort and help He intends for you. Recommit yourself to God, wholeheartedly accepting His leading and His working in you. Then the way will be free for the blessing contained in suffering to flow into your life.

God calls Himself your Father. He is waiting for you, His child, to love Him. The Father is looking for your love, for He delights in the love of His children. But you will be a joy to Him only in so far as you love God above all else. This means surrendering to Him everything your heart clings to, be it people or things, giving Him your all for love of Him. Then you will bring joy to the heart of God and, in loving God and being loved by Him, you will be richly blessed and happy.
