Our love is precious to God the Father. He values it highly. Time and again He calls us to love Him, promising to love us in return. He wants to make His home in our hearts. Yes, He wants to visit you if you love Him. What an unimaginable privilege and honour! Do not throw it away frivolously. Give God your love. You may ask how. Jesus gives you the answer: ‘He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.’ This is not a matter of feelings. It is simply a matter of obeying His commandments, above all, His commandment of love — love which does not become resentful but which bears and endures all things. Those who strive daily to keep His commandments will experience the Father’s love most (John 14:21, 1 Corinthians 13).

Who will be firmly grounded and not swept away when tidal waves of trouble roll across the earth? Those who have built their lives upon the firm foundation of God’s will and His commandments. Those who seek to do the will of God daily, taking His commandments as the standard for their lives, will not fall, even in times of great affliction. They will be firmly established for all eternity.

God has powerfully demonstrated His love for us by revealing Himself, speaking to us through His Word and making known His will. He tells us what we should do and what is good for us. Nothing so grieves His heart as when we ignore His words and commands. If we love God, we will take His commandments seriously. Seeking to apply them, we find that doing the will of God brings happiness and blessing, for the will of God comes from a heart which has only good intentions concerning us, a heart which is nothing but love.
