God can transform shortage into plenty, just as Jesus multiplied the loaves and fish so that there was enough to go round. To this day God can transform a little into a lot — but for whom? In the account of the feeding of the five thousand the disciples were not allowed to eat by themselves the few loaves and fish they had. These had to be shared among the crowds. As they were given away, they were multiplied; and everyone, including the disciples, had as much as he needed. So give, and you will receive. But first place what you have into the hands of God, as the disciples placed the bread into the hands of Jesus. Then the little you give Him lovingly and trustingly will be increased by His blessing. Give in times of hardship as well, and ‘the jar of meal shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not fail …’ (Matthew 14:13-21; 1 Kings 17:14)
