Does the prospect of the use of nuclear weapons make you afraid? How do you overcome this fear? — By filling your thoughts with the love of God the Father. Whoever considers His love will be comforted. God always finds a way to help and protect, even in the greatest affliction. For instance, He can command fire not to burn. Remember the angel sent to help Daniel’s friends in the fiery furnace. God declares He will be with His children in their distress — a promise valid for all times. He says, ‘When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.’ God will be near you in times of acute distress and will help you. May this comforting assurance sustain you (Isaiah 43:2).

We have a heavenly Father who is almighty. The question is: Who will experience His mighty deeds? — Those who believe in His ability to do them. Faith in God is a power capable of transforming everything — it is not faith in a vacuum, but faith in the living Lord, who has power to help and who demonstrates this for those who trust in Him. Therefore, have faith in Him when you are in despair, and the storm will abate. Trust in Him when you are afraid, and your fears will be calmed. Believe, and you will experience miracles.

Is fear of the future depressing you? The Lord would reassure you, ‘Have I not told you that I will be with you always? Days of trouble are no exception. On the contrary, then I will be closer to you than ever before. If the hardship is seven times greater, My help will be seven times greater. During the hardest days I will come with even larger numbers of angels to help you. You can rely upon this.’

The greater the hardship, the closer God is, and the mightier His help.

It has grown dark upon the earth, and darkness is perhaps also creeping into your heart. Be assured, God comes to look after His children whenever they are surrounded by darkness and afraid. He says, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’ The sun may no longer be shining upon you, but now the Lord wants to be your everlasting light, your joy and comfort. His light shines more brightly than the sun, and His joy is greater than your greatest sorrow. This holds good for even the darkest times.
