Because God is love, His one thought is to make us happy. But He does not want our happiness to be short-lived; on the contrary, He wants us to have lasting happiness — joy for all eternity. That is why we are not spared His discipline now during this short time on earth. He wants to prepare us for the joy and happiness of a redeemed person in all eternity. The choice is ours: Do we want a short-lived, clouded happiness here on earth, or everlasting, unclouded happiness in the heavenly glory?
