Do you find it hard to believe in God’s merciful love? Then consider this: In heaven God will reward us for even the smallest things, although He really does not need to reward us for anything. What would become of us if God were to weigh our actions? Imagine what would happen if He put all our sins and failures onto one scale, and all that we have done for love of Him onto the other. The scale with the sins would be much the heavier. Yet still He rewards us for the smallest cup of cold water we have given to one of our brothers. When we are faced with our sins and failings, this thought helps us to believe that God acts not according to our sins but according to His great mercy.
