Our loving Father in heaven is deeply grieved when His warnings and disciplinary measures have no effect upon us. They miss the mark when we protest against His refining process, lashing out against His chastening hand. Words cannot tell what sorrow we cause the Father when we respond in this manner. In reality we are destroying the work He wants to accomplish in us. So it is we who are to blame when He cannot transform us into the image of Jesus, as He wants to do through chastening; it is we who are to blame when He has to devise new ways of disciplining us for our good. Whoever humbly submits to God will be spared many disciplinary measures, much pain.
