Times of need reveal what kind of relationship we have with our heavenly Father. Such periods show whether we have been setting our hope on people and circumstances or whether we have really been trusting in God. Failure to have learnt genuine trust in God the Father makes the hard days harder. Yet it is in these times that the Father calls us back to Himself. It may be His last offer of grace. Thus it is a decisive moment when we reach the end of our confidence in people and circumstances. Then a door opens for us: repentance. If we repent of our self-sufficiency, acknowledging our sin of separating ourselves from God, we will have access to the Father’s love, care and help.
