God needs people who are persistent in prayer like the Canaanite woman who refused to be put off (Matthew 15:21-28 RSV). He is waiting for people who, even when seemingly receiving a stone instead of bread, nevertheless persevere and take God at His word. Jesus once asked, “What man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?” (Matthew 7:9 RSV) No true father would! So say to your heavenly Father, “You will never give me a stone when I ask for something!” In response to such a humble prayer God will turn the stone – even were it already in your hands – into bread. He stands by His word.
