God loves us. This is why He trains and disciplines us like a true father bringing up his children. He stops showering us with His gifts when we use them selfishly or disobediently. But Jesus wants us to experience the kingdom of heaven with all its blessings, and so He keeps calling to us, “Repent.”The heart of the Father is wide open to all who are sorry for their sins and turn from them. When we come in repentance, He can and will shower us with His goodness.

Those who love us are glad when they see us joyful. They do everything they can to make us happy. But no one loves us as much as God. Nothing brings more joy to His heart than seeing His children happy. Let us believe this of Him and, in believing, let us be happy like little children. When we expect good things from our Father, we bring Him joy. Let us not grieve His loving heart by doubting Him.

Are you longing for reconciliation with God? Look at the fatherly hands of God. Look at the way they work in the lives of human beings. These fatherly hands place the robe of righteousness and the most precious ring of divine love on those who approach the Father like the prodigal son and who say in deep contrition, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against You.” (Lukes 15:21-22) When your sins and failures make you sad, place yourself in these fatherly hands. They will soothe your pain and show you infinite kindness.

You cannot understand how God, who calls Himself a Father, can give you such a heavy cross to bear? Have you perhaps forgotten that we are all sinners? Sinners need a cross and suffering in their lives in order to be disciplined, purified and transformed. Otherwise they would never reach the goal of God’s glory. Without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:10,14). But reaching this goal is worth every difficult pathway!

Are you seeking? For what are you seeking? Something satisfying, something that brings happiness? God’s answer is: “You will seek me and find me.” (Jeremiah 29:13 RSV)

God, who made you, knows and loves you, wants to give you what you are seeking. Are you seeking to be loved? Are you seeking security? In Him alone will your deepest needs be met. Do you seek fulfilment? Do you seek someone who is completely available for you, someone to love and confide in? The One who does not lie, who cannot deceive, promises to give life abundantly (John 10:10). So turn to Him. He loves you. He will answer you and fulfil the longings of your heart. He cannot, and will not, disappoint you.

What is the greatest gift God can grant us? – Himself, His nature, which is love. He does not want to keep this love for Himself. He wants to share it with us. This is why He sent Jesus, love manifest in the flesh. Jesus brought this love to earth in order to redeem us to love. Let us draw love from the fountain of grace, His heart. Then we will have the greatest gift, the greatest happiness for time and for eternity – true love. Nothing can make us so happy as loving.

Maybe you do not find it hard to believe that God the Father will help you in your personal problems and carry you through. However, you are worried about what will happen when a time of great affliction descends upon us all. But you can be sure that His help will be proportionate to the disaster. Times of distress, terror and calamity have always been an opportunity for God to prove His glorious might. So trust Him implicitly!
